Tucked into an older Anchorage neighborhood and cherished by the well-established surrounding community, Chester Valley Elementary School desperately needed a facelift. The exterior precast panels dated the school and suffered from a series of well-intentioned make-overs. Spiral Design was hired by the project architect to develop an interior design reflecting the school’s proud history while giving the school’s tired exterior and interior a much needed energy boost – all on a very limited budget.
Spiral Design determined the best approach was to minimize the exterior precast panels and repeat the interior color palette by using durable, frost-proof tile wainscoting achieving a bright, cheerful and welcoming exterior. Inside, new mechanical upgrades lowered already low corridor ceilings. Spiral Design worked with the engineers to re-design ductwork placement to occur at significant hallway crossroads.
